Overnight Oats

My first try with overnight oats yielded major success! I highly recommend these for so many reasons. First of all, waking up in the morning and not having to fuss around in the kitchen is VERY valuable, especially when it’s 6:00 AM and you have to fly out the door for work/school in half an hour. Plus, since it’s already in a jar, you can take it to go! Second of all, they are super filling. The whole grain oats are high in fiber, and the yogurt and milk give you the protein you need to stay satiated until lunch. Lastly, overnight oats are super versatile. You can make dozens of flavor combos, which keeps things interesting! Depending on the fruit you use and the spices you add, each batch can be totally different. For example, these overnight oats tasted fruity and simple, but if I had made them with cocoa powder, peanut butter, and banana, they would have tasted more decadent. The possibilities are endless! A great recipe for the fall contains pumpkin puree and pepita seeds, which truly brings autumn to your tastebuds.

Do it yourself:

  • 1/3 cup of Greek yogurt (I went with plain, whole fat)
  • 1/3 cup of milk (I prefer regular milk, but almost milk works great too!)
  • 1/3 cup of rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon of chia seeds
  • fruit: raspberries, strawberries, and banana (I mixed the berries in at night and partially crushed them so as to really get their flavor into the oats, and then added the banana in the morning).
  • optional spices: vanilla extract and cinnamon
